Pactly

Accountability · Android

Your streak is no longer yours alone.

Pactly matches you with one stranger. You both commit to a daily goal. You both check in with a live photo. Miss a day — either of you — and the streak goes to zero for both.

The terms

Five clauses. That's the entire product.

Habit apps fail because the only person you can disappoint is yourself, and you have a lifetime of practice forgiving that person. Pactly hands the cost to somebody else.

01

You are matched with a stranger

No friends to invite, no profile to curate, no one to choose. You join a pool and you are paired with one person who also committed to showing up daily. You keep them until the streak breaks.

A stranger is the point. A friend will let you off. Someone who owes you nothing, and is owed nothing back, will not.

02

You check in with a live photo

The camera opens straight to a live frame. There is no gallery button, no upload, no way to submit yesterday's picture. Proof, not promises.

Enforced at the source: the photo library is not wired into the app at all, so no future update can quietly soften this.

03

Both of you, or neither

The streak only advances when the second person checks in. If either of you misses the deadline, it drops to zero — for both. There is no freeze, no repair, no paying it back tomorrow.

You will lose a streak because of someone else. That is not a flaw in the design; it is the design. It is also what makes you open the app at 11pm.

The pact levels up as you hold it

Days accumulate into something with a name. A Legendary Pact is thirty-one consecutive days in which neither of two strangers blinked — and everyone who has one knows exactly what it cost.

Your reliability follows you

Every check-in and every miss is counted for life. When you are matched again, the stranger sees one number: the percentage of days you have actually shown up. It is the only thing anyone ever learns about you here.

Reliability = check-ins ÷ days you were in a pact. It survives every break, which is why it is worth protecting.

Clause 06 · Omissions

Everything we left out, on purpose.

chatfollowerslikescomments reactionsa feedfriend requests leaderboardsstreak freezesads

What's left is one person who will find out, tomorrow morning, whether you showed up.

Clause 07 · Parties

Built for people with something at stake in eight weeks.

Exams

Students revising

The syllabus does not care that you were tired. Neither does the person waiting on your photo.

Training

Gym in month two

Month one runs on novelty. Month two runs on not being the reason someone else lost forty days.

Practice

Anything daily

Reading, meditation, running, an instrument. If it can be photographed, it can be held to.

Work

Professionals

The habit you keep postponing until the quarter calms down. It will not calm down.

Clause 08 · Execution

Sign it, and someone you have never met starts counting on you tomorrow.
